Dear Clinton Township Democrat:

Due to the mid-term vacancy of a Clinton Township Trustee, the Michigan Democratic Party members who reside in Clinton Township are to nominate a candidate for the special election to be held during the Presidential Primary on either February 27, 2024 or March 12, 2024. 

We will be holding a Special Nominating Convention on Tuesday, October 3rd and hope you are able to attend. The official Call to Convention, including eligibility requirements are detailed below.

CALL TO CLINTON TOWNSHIP SPECIAL NOMINATING CONVENTION

Tuesday, October 3rd

Credentialing begins at 6:30pm

Credentialing closes at 6:55pm

Convention begins at 7:00 pm

The Call to Convention will be issued via email and US mail to all eligible delegates.

 

 

PROPOSED Convention Rules & Eligibility

Voting Method:

A simple majority for single-position elections as outlined in Section 5 of the Rules for Voting and Elections in the Michigan Democratic Party must be used.

Convention Delegates:

Delegates to this convention will be residents of Clinton Township who are MDP members, Precinct Delegates elected at the August 2nd, 2022 Primary, Democratic elected officials, and Democratic nominees to partisan office. 

Voting Eligibility:

Articles 3.2 and 3.3 of the Michigan Democratic Party Rules stipulate the following qualifications for eligibility to vote:

In order to hold party office or vote at any Convention, Caucus, or meeting at any unit of the Michigan Democratic Party at any level, a person must be a member of the Michigan Democratic Party for at least thirty (30) days prior to that Convention, Caucus, or meeting. A party member must be a qualified elector (registered voter) in order to vote on nominations for public office.

 Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials, Democratic nominees to partisan offices, and individuals whose membership lapses inside the thirty day window are exempt from the advance membership requirement. However, those individuals must be members in order to vote and may join or renew the same day as the Convention, Caucus, or meeting.

 Qualifications for Candidacy:

Under Michigan law, a Township Trustee must be a minimum of 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident elector (registered voter) of the township for a minimum of 30 days prior to taking office.
